The koala, the bear that really isn’t a bear. Loved throughout the world as an iconic Australian marsupial, until recently very little was known about the koala. Once thought only as the sleepy creature residing in Eucalyptus trees, research now paints a different picture. Koala Country is the story of one young male koala from his birth to the time when he becomes the dominant male of a patch of eucalyptus forest. During his journey he must overcome the obstacles that have always been a part of a koala’s life. There are natural predators, such as pythons and owls, that easily could take a joey. Koalas must survive the extremes of the climate, from winter storms to searing heat and drought causing wild fires that have been a part of the Australian ecosystem for countless millions of years
