Norway, country of northern Europe that occupies the western half of the Scandinavian peninsula. Nearly half of the inhabitants of the country live in the far south, in the region around Oslo, the capital. Norway has many mountains. Some of the peaks are so steep that no one has ever tried to climb them. There are about 2,000 different plant species found here, with a few that are only found in Norway. Berries grow throughout the country. Most of Norway has a maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. Because of the influence of the North Atlantic Ocean, Norway has a much warmer climate than its latitudinal position would indicate
