STUNNING PLANET
Our 8K planet earth has a radius of at least 6 thousand kilometers, Earth is the fifth largest planet in our solar system, and is the only one known for sure to have liquid water on its surface.Although we cannot feel it, the Earth travels its orbit at an average speed of 30 kilometers per second. During this circuit, our planet moves an average of 150 million kilometers from the sun, a distance that light takes about eight minutes to travel. Astronomers define this distance as an astronomical unit, a measurement that serves as a handy cosmic yardstick. The planet earth is also unique when it comes to its name. Every other planet in the solar system was named after a Greek or Roman deity, but for at least 2,050 years. Our planet revolves around the sun once every 364 days. Since our calendar years, according to the Gregorian calendar used by the Western world, only have 364 days, we add an extra leap day every four years to account for the difference. The Earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours, which defines day and night for surface dwellers. This axis of rotation is tilted 25 degrees from the plane of Earth's orbit around the Sun, which gives us the seasons. The hemisphere that is closest to the sun experiences summer, while the hemisphere that is far away experiences winter. In spring and fall, each hemisphere receives similar amounts of light. On two specific dates of the year, both hemispheres light up equally.
