The Indonesian archipelago lies in the heart of the Coral Triangle, a region of the ocean recognized worldwide as the centre of marine biodiversity. With the highest number of coral and fish species on earth, Indonesia has the richest reefs on the planet - but these reefs are under threat. The non-profit environmental organization Conservation International fights a daily battle to defend these priceless marine habitats. Researchers monitor and study threatened shark populations, protect nesting sea turtles and train locals to patrol the seas in search of fishermen who use destructive explosives to help net their catch. Conservation International’s work may determine the future of what remains for now the Amazon of the Seas
