New Mercedes SL73 AMG move over BMW
- Mercedes last year introduced a new generation of fairly well-known roadster SL.
The novelty has received a completely new design, an exclusive interior and is being developed by the AMG division, so there are no frankly weak modifications in the SL line.
At this stage, the dvuhdverka offers one engine with two boost stages, it's still the same 4-liter V8 with twin turbocharging and a pleasant velvet sound that attracts the eyes of others.
In the younger modification of the SL55, the engine produces 476 forces and 700 Nm., And exchanges the first hundred in 3.9 seconds, and the older 63 version uses a modification of the same engine borrowed from the G63 AMG, with a capacity of 585 forces and 800 Nm.
Thanks to all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic, the roadster shoots up to the first hundred in 3.6 seconds.
As it turns out, this is not the limit and Mercedes is not going to stop there.
It turns out that the company is seriously considering the possibility of releasing another modification of the SL73 AMG, although judging by the company's recent policy, the roadster may receive the more familiar name SL63 E Performance.
I think you already suspect what I'm talking about, but I'm talking about the fact that the Germans want to do a crazy thing, install a GT63 E Performance power plant in a small and light Mercedes SL.
On the one hand, this is a good idea, because the SL will still have a 4-liter V8, just an electric motor with its two-stage gearbox will come to the rescue.
The point is that with such a power plant at its peak, the SL73, or whatever Mercedes decides to call it, will produce a monstrous 843 forces and 1470 Nm. moment, although it seems somewhat unrealistic.
On the other hand, the tuners repeatedly succumbed to the previous generation of the roadster with hard drinks and removed 800 and even 900 forces from it.
The bottom line is that with all that power, the new SL will be very fast, and all-wheel drive will allow it to deliver that kind of power. Considering that the heavier GT63 E Performance with such power spends 2.9 seconds on the first hundred, the SL will take a little more than 2.5 seconds.
Don't forget that the new SL will be the basis of the second-generation AMG GT, and it will get exactly the same characteristics, and it will have to fight with the Porsche 911 Turbo S itself, so this power will be just right for both models.
One problem, the top SL is likely to be presented after a scheduled update, which is still a couple of years of waiting.
