USS Gerald R. Ford SUPERCARRIER (CVN-78) tests AMAZING NEW electromagnetic CATAPULT launch system!

This video features the United States Navy's newly developed Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS).

This new, highly sophisticated linear induction motor allows for a far more precise, flexible and smoothly calibrated acceleration process; inflicting less stress on the aircraft's air-frame; and therefore reducing maintenance needs and likely prolonging an aircraft's effective operating life.

The USS Gerald R. Ford is of course the lead ship of a new class of nuclear powered American supercarriers. She was launched on 9 November 2013. And it is intended they she will undertake her first deployment in early 2019.
